ESPN Star Sports Charity Golf & Dinner at Laguna Jul 26, 2008

Fifteen members of the ESPN STAR Sports football broadcasting team and Peter Withe, former English football legend and coach of the Thai national football team, will visit Laguna Phuket to support Laguna’s initiative to improve conditions at underprivileged schools in Phang-nga.

The celebrities will play a charity golf tournament followed by a dinner at the Sheraton Grande Laguna Phuket, featuring fabulous auction prizes.

To enter the tournament golfers may choose a Corporate or Standard Team Package. Dinner-only tickets are 2,500 baht per person, inclusive of wine and beer. Team Packages and dinner tickets are sold at the Golf Club pro-shop.

Phuket Vegetarian Festival Sep 29- Oct 7, 2008

This festival is an annual event held during the ninth lunar month of the Chinese calendar, which normally falls in late September or early October. Though the origins of the festival are unclear, it celebrates the Chinese community's belief that a strict diet of 'vegetables only' will purify mind and body and constitute merit-making.

Sacred rituals are performed at all Chinese temples in Phuket. The processions from each temple show spectacles of strict vegetarians, known as devotees, ostensibly possessed by gods, piercing their tongues, cheeks and other parts of the anatomy with sharp implements. The devotees apparently feel no pain and show no sign of real injury.

   This year annual tourist event of the Phuket Carnival at Patong was announced to be held during November 1-3 at Soi Bangla and Thawewong or the beach road.Concept will be a Season Beach Fest and more international to serve the visitors. At least 10 different activities in different zones will be held including the longest bar counters along both sides of the Soi Bangla, with local handicraft and folklore being staged at the beach front public park. Other booths including seafood and art.

Loy Kratong(Full Moon Day) Nov 24

Loy Kratong festival happens on the full moon night of the 12th lunar month all over Thailand. This festival can trace its origin in India as a form of giving thanks to the Goddess of the river according to the belief. People all over celebrate this event by making a wish and launching small vessels (usually made from banana tree and leaves) into the rivers (or even swimming pools). It is also to apologize for having polluted the waters as Thailand is predominantly an agricultural country and water is essential to survive.

The 5th December is public holiday and this is the day of all the fathers of Thailand. This day is the birthday of the current Thai king and also King Rama IX. All the buildings of Thailand are covered up with symbols of the monarchy and the King.

2008 Laguna Phuket Triathlon December 7, 2008

Southeast Asia's premier multi-sport event, the Laguna Phuket Triathlon, presented by Thai Airways International, the Tourism Authority of Thailand and Herbalife, is now in its 15th year.

The 1.8k swim, 55k bike ride and 12k run offers a US$20,000 pro prize purse.

The event expects to attract some 800 athletes from over 30 countries competing in both the individual triathlon and the Herbalife Corporate Challenge Team Relay.

A 6k fun run for 500 participants will also be conducted during the event.
